As Music Hall in Paris breathes its last, a dying breed of stage entertainer leaves for Scotland performing at garden parties and in bars. On the island of Mull he meets a young fan who believes his tricks are nothing less than true magic power. She stows away to join him in Edinburgh where they change each other's life for ever.
